Housing options

VA is committed to ending homelessness among Veterans. Our focus is threefold: Conducting coordinated outreach to proactively seek out Veterans in need of assistance, connecting homeless and at-risk Veterans with housing solutions, health care, community employment services and other required supports and collaborating with federal, state and local agencies; employers; housing providers, faith-based and community nonprofits; and others to expand employment and affordable housing options for Veterans exiting homelessness.

The Battle Buddy Bridge® (B3) is a veteran peer-to-peer program developed by Volunteers of America that provides services and opportunities to military veterans and their families. B3 trains and certifies veterans as peer support specialists who function as community resource navigators. Battle Buddies work in squads to help other veterans and their families get access to housing, health care, family support, training, employment, and legal services. By working as B3 Battle Buddies, Veterans get an opportunity to re-engage in cooperative, purpose-driven activities for which they receive professional training, employment, and career development as well as various forums for multi-sector networking to aid in their own reintegration journeys.

The chaplain's responsibilities include performing religious rites, conducting worship services, providing confidential counseling and advising commanders on religious, spiritual and moral matters. Chaplains are commissioned officers stationed wherever there are military members, including combat environments.

Legal Services of Hudson Valley provides specific support to Veterans who are struggling with issues related to the law specifically: Housing rights, social security claims appeals, debt issues, veteran benefits appeals, military discharge upgrades, etc. Free consultations are available.
